The Gaslamp Killer – “Residual Tingles”
LA experimental hip-hop soundscaper the Gaslamp Killer is eyeing his first release in over four years, following up 2012’s Breakthrough with the newly announced Instrumentalepathy LP due later this fall. In 2013, the producer suffered a serious accident on his scooter, but that didn’t deter him from working for too long. Much of the material on his latest effort comes from shortly after the accident. Just like Breakthrough, the album is highly collaborative with features from Gonjasufi, Miguel Atwood Ferguson, and many more. Flying Lotus also contributed a short video teaser for the album. Along with the announcement comes the first foray into the album, “Residual Triangles.” It’s a deep burrowing, triumphant beat laced with classical strings and intricate work on the bongos until it melts into a vocal-driven section and closes akin to an orchestral score. Listen.
Instrumentalepathy is out 9/16 via the Gaslamp Killer’s own Cuss Records. Pre-order it here.
