L’Orange & Mr. Lif – “Strange Technology” (Feat. Akrobatik & Gonjasufi)
North Carolina producer L’Orange is one of the most underrated beatsmiths and samplers right now. Veteran underground spitter Mr. Lif is in the same category when it comes to MCs. Both of them together on a project is going to be boom-bap banging, dexterous dopeness. That’s exactly what we have on “Strange Technology,” the lead-off single from their upcoming collaborative album The Life & Death Of Scenery. The single features another spitfire vet in Akrobatik, and experimental San Diego artist Gonjasufi as well. It’s a dizzying, whomping romp with Lif and Ak throwing multi-syllabic bursts back and forth at each other while L’Orange provides booming drums, precisely chopped vocal samples, and a little off-kilter swing. This is a great kickoff to the album. Here’s what Lif and L’Orange had to say about the track:
“Strange Technology” is one of our favorite songs on the record. We had the pleasure of working with the incredibly talented Gonjasufi and Akrobatik that both lent their unique styles to the process. This song is a great example of the combination of classic influence and modern execution we tried to use as a foundation for this project.
