The Flaming Lips Get Their Own Whiskey
Gimmick kings the Flaming Lips have just partnered with Illinois craft distillery FEW Spirits to bring you Brainville Rye Whiskey, their very own whiskey named after one of my very favorite Flaming Lips songs. According to a press release, “Brainville Rye Whiskey is made from a combination of rye, corn and malted barley, and aged in new, charred American oak barrels custom-made in Minnesota. Like FEW’s award-winning regular rye whiskey, the mash is fermented using a French wine yeast, giving the whiskey stone-fruit, apple and pear notes over a background of sharp spice.”
This Thursday, ahead of their headlining performance at Riot Fest, the Lips will stop by Chicago’s Linkin Park to celebrate the launch, meeting fans, signing bottles of Brainville, and pouring out samples along with FEW Spirits founder Paul Hletko. The event will be held from 7-9PM at Binny’s Beverage Depot, 1720 N. Marcey St. The limited edition 80-proof Brainville Rye will also be sold on the Lips’ upcoming tour and will be rolling out to retailers in October. The suggested retail price is $124.99 for a 750-mL bottle.
