Atlanta Band To Watch alumni Mothers recently stopped by the A.V. Club studio to cover Glenn Frey’s 1984 hit “The Heat Is On” — perhaps a timely tribute after the Eagles founder’s death earlier this year. I was just watching Beverly Hills Cop the other day and Frey’s jam, with its sultry sax and subtle organ, still goes. Mothers keep the bounce of the original and add a darker edge, replacing the sax flourishes with warped, surfy guitar that leaves room for Kristine Leschper’s vocals to cut through.
