Toothless – “The Sirens” (Feat. The Staves)
Toothless is the solo project of Bombay Bicycle Club’s Ed Nash. On his latest single, produced by the always in-demand Chris Coady, he teams up with the Staves, the artful folk-rock sister trio and Bon Iver associates whose album If I Was remains my favorite release of 2015 (seriously, check it out if you have any appreciation for lovelorn beauty). “The Sirens” finds Nash and the Stavely-Turner sisters “The Sirens,” flexing their harmonic powers over icy electronic rock production. The effect is something like one of Sufjan Stevens’ early folk-rock epics transposed into his mid-career digital phase — only smoother, sleeker, and more propulsive. The track hits digital services tomorrow, but you can hear it right now below.
“The Sirens” will see official release 11/4 via Island.
