The Avalanches – “Subways (Arthur Baker Remix)”
Arthur Baker was one of the most important producers of the ’80s. He worked with Afrika Bambaataa on “Planet Rock,” co-wrote “Confusion” and “Thieves Like Us” with New Order, and signed New Edition. He is a big deal. So it’s cool to see that the Avalanches have recruited Baker to remix their recent single “Subways.” Baker has essentially remixed the song disco-edit-style, stretching it out and giving it a deeper thump. His remix will appear on a new Avalanches EP of “Subways” remixes, which will also include a reworking from Leo James and an extended version of “In Flagranti.” Below, listen to Baker’s take on the track, via Pitchfork.
The Avalanches’ new album Wildflower is out now on Astralwerks/Modular/XL. The EP of “Subways” remixes is out 9/23.
