Ricky Eat Acid – “Nice To See You”
“Nice To See You,” the second single from Ricky Eat Acid’s upcoming new album Talk To You Soon, is absolutely massive. I was floored when I first heard it, and it’s been blasting out of my car speakers ever since whenever I get the chance. Its bones are constructed around a wriggling bass line and trap-inspired beat — tailor-made for a sweaty late-night at the club, and I can’t wait to hear it in that context — but it culminates in one of the most powerful moments I’ve heard in music all year, and one I think maybe only Sam Ray and a handful of others could pull off. Ray recruited friends Spencer Radcliffe and Infinity Crush’s Caroline White to sing the track’s climactic line: “It’s nice to see you/ Hope I see you again sometime/ If you’re ever in town and wanna hang out, stop by and say hi.” It’s a simple sentiment, but it speaks to a radical communality and inclusivity that has always been present in Ray’s music, and hearing it come at the end of this absolute banger is just jaw-dropping, and it gives me chills every time.
