Nocturnal Habits – “Echophilia”
When we heard “Good Grief,” the first single from Justin Trosper and Sara Lund’s new band Nocturnal Habits, we noted that the sound was a bit more outgoing than what we’d come to expect from their previous project, Unwound. That trend continues on the latest advance track from New Skin For Old Children. “Echophilia” gives Trosper’s signature dark, spindly guitar music a crisp studio sheen, a bright shoegaze glow, and a soaring chorus melody. It’s also, as Trosper notes, the first time he’s used the word “baby” in a song:
“Echophilia” started out as a big mess in my bedroom using garageband and ended up with a top notch producer in Rome shaping it up. Because of that weird recording evolution and that it’s the first song I wrote “baby” into the lyrics makes this track special.
