Xylouris White are a fascinating musical project -- a partnership between George Xylouris, a master lute player from the Greek island of Crete, and Jim White, drummer of the great Australian post-rockers the Dirty Three. Together, they make a sort of way-out psychedelic take on Greek folk music. They impressed me deeply when I saw them at the Basilica Sound Festival last month, and Fugazi's Guy Picciotto produced their new album Black Peak. You'll get a pretty good idea of how they sound by hitting play on the spacey, winding song "Pretty Kondilies," and its new video shows the two reclining in the byzantine, ancient streets of Greece.
