The Flaming Lips – “The Castle”
The Flaming Lips officially announced their new album Oczy Mlody — that’s Polish for “Eyes Of The Young” — this morning, and now its lead single has already arrived. “The Castle” finds the Lips sounding more floaty and angelic than they have in a good while, with Wayne Coyne’s sing-song voice warbling lyrics like “Her eyes were butterflies/ Her smile was a rainbow” over glistening guitars, arpeggiated space-synths, and a clattering beat. As a big-time Lips fan who hasn’t always loved their recent bad-acid-trip music, it has me cautiously optimistic about the prospect of a new album. Hear it below.
Oczy Mlody is out 1/13.
