The latest in Godmode Records’ series of Monday single drops is “No Mirrors No TVs” by Black Commando, a project bringing together Matt Morello and Godhead label head Nick Sylvester. With jazzy, funky production built around what sounds like a sample of CeCe Peniston’s “Finally,” the track resembles Jarvis Cocker taking a stab at the kind of experimental lounge rock Matt Berninger and Brent Knopf attempted with EL VY. According to a tweet from Sylvester, the project was originally called the James Murphy Wine Bar, which actually describes the aesthetic better than any further description I could provide.
