Tanya Tagaq – “Retribution” Video
A few weeks ago, multi-instrumentalist and throat singer Tanya Tagaq released Retribution, her first new album since winning the Polaris Prize for 2014’s Animism, and today she’s sharing a video for its 8-minute-long title track. It features Tagaq, mask dancer Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory, and a wolf in a warehouse. “The ‘Retribution’ video embodies the idea of nature being forced into unnatural spaces. It’s about how one cannot remove the essence of life and instinct out of our bodies, no matter how debilitated this society becomes,” Tagaq told Thump, who debuted the video. “Laakkuluk is a Greenlandic mask dancer that articulates the emotional elements of humanity. Fear. Anger. Laughter. Lust. Our ode to nature is our ode to life.” The clip was directed by Brian Johnson. Watch below.
