SSHH – “Get Up Stand Up” (Bob Marley Cover) (Feat. Eddie Vedder)
Sshh Liguz and Zak Starkey (son of Ringo) are the brains behind SSHH, the electro-punk duo slated to release their debut album, ISSUES, later this month. They’ve teamed up with a renowned host of musicians for the record, including members of Primal Scream, the Who, Marilyn Manson, and Amy Winehouse’s band among others. This cut of “Get Up Stand Up” takes a more maximalist approach than the original Wailers tune and translates as stadium-ready upon the first listen; it’s a song that sounds as big as the artists featured on the album, which on this track include Wailers drummer Santa Davis and Peter Tosh Word Sound And Power bassist Fully Fullwood. The icing on the cake is Eddie Vedder taking on the echoey backing vocals (Grunge Goes Dub compilation when?), which comes across as an oddly natural role for the famed frontman. Check it out below and hopefully find some inspiration during these dark days.
Proceeds from ISSUES will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust. Pre-order it here, and check out full details on the tracklist below.
