Sharon Jones, vocalist and leader of the retro-soul band Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, has passed away following a battle with pancreatic cancer. According to a statement, she died today while surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings. She was 60.

Jones was initially diagnosed with cancer in 2013. The next year, following successful treatment including surgery and chemotherapy, the group released the album Give The People What They Want and she returned to touring, but her cancer returned last November. Her struggle with cancer was recently addressed in the documentary Miss Sharon Jones!

A note on Jones' website asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lustgarten Foundation, the James Brown Family Foundation, and Little Kids Rock. Memorial details will be announced shortly.
