Dear Nora Reuniting For West Coast Tour, Reissuing Mountain Rock
Dear Nora’s fingerprints can be seen all over the contemporary music landscape, from the off-the-cuff lyrical ingenuities of Frankie Cosmos to the plaintive intimacy of Girlpool, who even name-checked the project in a song on their debut album. Katy Davidson started the band over 15 years ago in Portland and, before retiring the name in 2008, released three perfect full-lengths — 2001’s We’ll Have A Time, 2004’s Mountain Rock, and 2006’s There Is No Home — and countless 7″ and one-offs, most of which were collected on the Three States: Rarities 1997-2007 compilation. She also toured the world over with a rotating cast of band members, bringing her Pacific Northwest folk across the globe.
Davidson kept making music after hanging up the Dear Nora hat, as Lloyd & Michael and Key Losers, but she’s reuniting under the name for a West Coast tour early next year in celebration of a reissue of Mountain Rock, her favorite Dear Nora album. It’s due out on vinyl on 1/13 via Orindal Records, the label started by Casiotone For The Painfully Alone’s Owen Ashworth. For the tour, her backing band will include Stephen Steinbrink, iji’s Zach Burba, and author Gregory Campanile. Below, check out a teaser video for the forthcoming reissue and a list of tour dates, plus hear the album’s opening track, “The Lonesome Border Pt. 1.”
