Six Organs Of Admittance – “Taken By Ascent”
Ben Chasny’s ever prolific psych-folk project Six Organs Of Admittance has been mixing the intricate finger-picks of acoustic folk with dark, sweeping drone elements for almost two decades now. What began as a solo endeavor has turned into a full-fledged outfit in recent years, culminating in last year’s pair of Hexadic albums. Today, they’ve shared the first foray into the followup Burn The Threshold, coming early next year. It’s called “Taken By Ascent,” and it’s a slow-building, deftly layered grumbler driven by a twangy acoustic guitar gallop that would make Ennio Morricone proud. Rumbling electric bass, crispy drums, and rhythm galore then swell around the driving guitar line while leaving gauzy vocal harmonies untouched to pierce through. As far as I’m concerned the threshold is already burnt if this is any indication of what the rest of the album will sound like. Check it out below.
Burning The Threshold is out 2/24 on Drag City.
