WHY? – “This Ole King”
Winter is finalizing its grip with dropping temperatures and days that slip into night before dinnertime. Yoni Wolf is already daydreaming of the brighter months: “But at the start of spring, like the robins sing, this ole king will be rising.” The first single from WHY?’s forthcoming record Moh Lhean, “This Ole King” seems to be an exhale of sunshine — like one of those “light boxes” for impending Seasonal Affective Disorder. “This Ole King” achieves its warmth through fractured acoustic guitar melodies, ashy backup vocals, and cheeky Bongo embellishments with twinkling tambourine licks.
