Jack White Reupholsters Original Couch From Sam Phillips Recording
Jack White has been diversifying his Third Man imprint over the years, and one of the divisions is Third Man Upholstery. Legendary Sun Records and Sun Studio founder Sam Phillips’ family contacted the upholstery department and spoke with White personally to ask him to reupholster the original couch from Sam Phillips Recording, which opened in 1960 out of a need to expand Sun Studio. The studio has recorded artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Dylan, Phil Collins, Hank Williams Jr., Johnny Cash, the Cramps, and many more. White himself chose the fabric and color scheme for the couch, and this project is the beginning of the Phillips family’s effort to refurbish and restore the building. Check out the before and after below.
There is no word as to whether White hid records inside the couch.
