Two Tower Of Power Members Hit By A Train
Two members of the legendary Oakland band Tower Of Power were struck by a train last night around 7:45PM at the intersection of Clay Street and Embarcadero West in Jack London Square in Oakland in front of the jazz club Yoshi’s. According to several local news reports bassist Marc Van Wageningen and drummer Dave Garibaldi were on their way to a sound check for a gig at Yoshi’s, and though they waited for one train to pass them before crossing the tracks, an Amtrak train coming in the opposite direction hit them. They were thrown several feet upon impact. Yoshi’s general manager Hal Campos called 911 and stayed with the two injured musicians until two ambulances came. According to Campos, they were both unconscious and appeared to have broken bones. The show was cancelled, and ticketholders said they had no clue why until they walked outside and saw the scene of the accident. An outpour of support followed online, including a tweet from longtime friend of the band Sheila E. Van Wageningen and Garaibaldi’s conditions are unknown at this time. See a CBS local news report below.
