Four’s A Trend: Meek Mill Wants To Fight Drake In Yet Another Rap Boxing Match
One of the weirdest recent trends in pop culture is boxing matches between feuding rappers (and, in one high-profile case, singers). Most prominently, Chris Brown and Soulja Boy will allegedly be entering the ring to settle their complicated social media beef, with Mike Tyson in Brown’s corner and Floyd Mayweather backing Soulja. This escapade has evolved (devolved?) to include a Soulja Boy diss track by Iron Mike himself:
Young Florida rapper Kodak Black has also challenged Lil Wayne to a fight, and there has also been some talk of sparring between Atlanta rapper 21 Savage and his personal troll 22 Savage, who promises to change his name if 21 knocks him out. All of this pageantry would be dwarfed, however, by a fight between Drake and Meek Mill, the principals in this decade’s most famous rap beef.
As Fact reports, during an Instagram webcast last night Meek offered to fight Drake for $5 million and suggested Nicki Minaj could be the “ring girl.” (Minaj and Meek recently ended their romantic relationship, while Drake has been publicly pining for Minaj for years.) DJ Akademiks archived some of the livestream on his own Instagram, on which you can clearly hear Meek saying, “I’d beat Drizzy the fuck up for five mil. Of course I would. We gonna let Nicki be the ring girl… Y’all would come to see that fight, wouldn’t y’all? Y’all’d spend $100 a ticket for that.” Listen for yourself:
Drake, of course, is on top of the world right now and has no reason to risk taking the L. So unless public demand becomes so loud that Drake feels like he has to do it, he’s not going to do it. And anyhow, he already delivered this feud’s knockout punch back in summer ’15.
So, who else should square off in a boxing match? Besides B.o.B and Neil DeGrasse Tyson, of course.
