Modern Baseball – “This Song Is Gonna Buy Brendan Lukens A New Pair Of Socks”
Modern Baseball are heading out on tour in Europe next week with Thin Lips and the Superweaks, and to mark the occasion all three bands are joining together to release a split 7″. You can hear the whole thing online starting tomorrow, and today Modern Baseball have shared their contribution “This Song Is Gonna Buy Brendan Lukens A New Pair Of Socks.” “I don’t like you, and I don’t have to,” Jake Ewald begins, the band playing behind him in what sounds like a tin can, before soon locking into a fuller groove of arpeggiated guitars and driving distortion. It’s the first song the band penned since the sessions for Holy Ghost, one of the past year’s best albums. “When I was 18 I could not love her/ I was always thinking of the one she left behind,” Ewald sings on the song’s bare middle section. “Now I don’t see her/ She loves another/ And in my pride I thought I had it figured out.” It all burns brightly out with a simple, searing guitar solo. The split 7″ is out 1/20 via Big Scary Monsters and Lame-O Records.
