Will.i.am’s Advice For Charli XCX’s New Album: “Just Say Random Words. Nobody Listens To The Verse.”
We caught up with Charli XCX at the end of 2016, and here in 2017 she’s continuing to give interviews promoting her upcoming album. One such conversation appeared in the pages of British music mag Q, but Charli was kind enough to share it on Facebook today. Probably the most intriguing remark involves her experience working with will.i.am:
Amazing! I love him. We were writing and he was like, “The verse — just say random words. Nobody listens to the verse.”
She also continued to belittle her 2015 album Sucker, which we thought was pretty good:
I made some rash decisions with Sucker, like the song :Break The Rules.” That was so bad. I hate it. I wrote it at a writing camp for other artists with Benny Blanco and Stargate, and I was like, “Whoever sings this song is an idiot.”
Not sure why Charli is so down on “Break The Rules.” It’s one of the best songs in her catalog! Read the full interview below.
