R.I.P. James Laurence
James Laurence, one half of the Oakland production duo Friendzone, has died, as FACT reports. Along with his Frienzone partner Dylan Reznick, Laurence helped develop the wispy, woozy, emotional style known as cloud-rap. No cause of death has been revealed.
Friendzone got their start in 2011, producing two tracks on Bay Area duo Main Attrakionz’ landmark mixtape 808s & Dark Grapes II. They went onto release the instrumental album Collection I in 2012. They produced A$AP Rocky’s 2013 single “Fashion Killa” and produced all of Main Attrakionz 2015 album 808s & Dark Grapes III. And they also released music on their own, like the 2013 album DX and the 2015 EP While U Wait. Below, watch a couple of videos for tracks that Friendzone produced.
