Alex Lahey – “Wes Anderson” Video
Alex Lahey is an indie rock singer-songwriter from Melbourne with a humorously quirky disposition, which means Courtney Barnett comparisons are inevitable. An opening lyric like “I stayed in the shower to avoid doing some useful shit” — from Lahey’s exceptional new song “Wes Anderson” — will not diminish that analog. But Lahey, whose B-Grade University EP is out today on Dead Oceans, has a sound of her own that draws from emo, new wave, and Keep It Like A Secret-era Built To Spill among other pleasing stylistic strands. This track in particular is a growing tidal wave of emotional noise that crests into something genuinely beautiful — never mind that director Jam Nawaz’s video is more of a comedic romp. It’s a similar story for “Ivy League” and “You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me,” two other tracks from the EP: both are immensely satisfying, and both have funny videos. Check out all three clips below.
