LAKE – “Work With What You Got”
Olympia quartet LAKE recently signed to Tapete Records, where they’ll be releasing their eighth studio album Forever Or Never later this spring. Today, we’re premiering the LP’s serene lead single “Work With What You Got.” Influenced by the soft palettes of the 1970s, LAKE make lounge music with 3-D wallpaper — weaving together diverse swatches of instrumentation by the thread of Mark Morrison’s amiable voice. “Have you ever tried to lend a hand?/ And wound up throwing in an arm and a leg too/ Throwing out your back,” Morrison cleverly intones. The message is simple: Don’t give more than you have to offer, because you’ll end up with nothing left to sustain your generosity. Thankfully, LAKE hold a great deal they’re willing to share, including reedy guitars, muted percussion, and impeccably layered harmonies. It’s waiting room music so engrossing it makes you forget what your destination was in the first place. Listen below.
