Roots Picnic 2017 Lineup
After bringing their Roots Picnic festival to New York last fall, the Roots are returning to their old Philadelphia stomping grounds for the annual summer version of the festival, and they’ve just unveiled the lineup.
This year, the show will come to Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing 6/3. As always, the Roots will headline. But this time, they’ll do it in collaboration with Pharrell, which could be fascinating. The rest of the bill is also really interesting. In the almost-headliner spot, they’ve got rap legend Lil Wayne, astral soul queen Solange, insurgent young rap demon 21 Savage, and New Zealand pop weirdo Kimbra.
The show will also feature people like Thundercat, Noname, Pete Rock, Michael Kiwanuka, A Boogie Wit A Hoodie, Vincent James McMorrow, Kanye West consigliere Virgil Abloh, and a live Black Thought mixtape that’ll feature people like Fat Joe, Mobb Deep, and Scott Storch, the onetime roots collaborator who became a disgraced hitmaking producer.
