The 5 Best Videos Of The Week
Tom’s out so I’m taking on 5 Best Video duty this week, and what a week it has been for good lookin’ videos. I left off Katy Perry because “Chained To The Rhythm” is corny as hell, even though the production value on that one is pretty incomparable. (Sorry Katy.) Anyway, here are a few videos worth spending some time with.
5. Jay Som – “Baybee” (Dir. Charlotte Hornsby & Jesse Ruuttila)
This video looks like a postcard from some California ski resort in the ’70s. I wish I was there with them.
4. Le1f – “Umami/Water” (Dir. Le1f)
Le1f’s video for “Umami/Water” is essentially two clips in one, a wildly inventive dance routine accompanied by a more conceptual take on the track’s back half. Le1f shared a note that unifies the two: “sending positive vibes to all women and feminines, brown folks of all genders, to our health, sanity, and all fresh water.”
3. Jidenna – “Bambi”
No matter how in love you still are with your ex, and no matter how much whiskey you down on the day of her wedding, don’t do what Jidenna does in this video.
2. Migos – “Deadz” (Feat. 2 Chainz) (Dir. DAPS)
Migos reanimate dead presidents by throwing money all over them and I’m watching this thing praying that we never get Trump’s dumbass face on a bill.
1. Lana Del Rey – “Love” (Dir. Rich Lee)
NASA discovered new planets this week thanks to Lana Del Rey, but the intergalactic, futuristic shit in this video isn’t even my favorite part. I love when Lana looks straight at the camera mid-song and flashes this super genuine, totally unrehearsed smile. It looks like one of those moments that just happened to be caught on camera and ended up making the final cut.
