Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly, & James McAlister – “Saturn”
Lately, Sufjan Stevens has been recording a whole album with the National’s Bryce Dessner, composer Nico Muhly, and drummer James McAlister. The album, Planetarium, is a collection of songs inspired by the solar system, and it’s based on an original composition that they performed at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music in 2013. Today, they’ve shared the first single “Saturn,” and it’s a lovely, shimmery track that slathers Stevens’ voice in Auto-Tune and throws something like a house beat underneath him. FACT reports that the album is coming in June; below, listen to “Saturn” and check out a tracklist.
UPDATE: Check out the spacey video for “Saturn” created by Deborah Johnson.
Per Stevens, “This was such an epic endeavor because the universe is constantly expanding, but we rose to the occasion! It is finished.”
