Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and producer Mike Edge is a total purist when it comes to music. While working on his self-titled debut EP, Edge wrote, recorded, produced, and mixed the every song in his own studio using equipment he built himself, and he’s releasing it on his own label. This wholly organic, homemade approach presents itself not only in Edge’s retro-minded psych-pop but in his video for “Been So Long,” the EP’s first single. The faded, minimalist video features an old movie grain on top of images of vintage plastic flamingos and fruity drinks. The song’s mellow vibe meshes well with Edge’s pop-up appearances in a Hawaiian shirt and lei. As a multi-instrumentalist, Edge played most of the parts on the EP, truly crafting “Been So Long” exactly as an airy throwback to the artists he looks up to.
