Cende – “Bed”
Cende got their start at David Blaine’s The Steakhouse, a now-defunct apartment show space in Brooklyn. It counts Porches’ Cameron Wisch and LVL UP’s Greg Rutkin among its four members, and together they make melodic and catchy power-pop. They released a sprightly five-song EP under their original name a couple years ago, and they’re gearing up to release their debut full-length in a few months. Its aspirational title, #1 Hit Single, betrays the band’s intentions, and maybe in a different decade lead single “Bed” would be hooky enough to land them there. It’s a song about never wanting to leave the comfort of your home because you’re haunted by past failures, and it both relishes in that protective space and tries to find a way to escape it. “I get into bed/ I can’t get out/ I’m the only one that I could let down,” Wisch sings in the chorus.
