Tompkins and Aimee Mann are old friends — they’re both regulars at the LA music-and-comedy club Largo, he’s performed at her Christmas shows over the years, they’ve done podcasts together, and he had a small role in Magnolia, the Paul Thomas Anderson movie she soundtracked.
