Gorillaz Announce Pop-Up “Spirit Houses” In New York, Berlin, Amsterdam
Animated band Gorillaz are prepping an immersive pop-up experience called “Spirit House” that will hit New York, Berlin and Amsterdam in April and May. The collaboration with Sonos will give fans “exclusive music and visuals through physical installations and projection mapping technology.”
The Damon Albarn-led group aim for an “immersive, high fidelity experience” that member Murdoc promised will allow fans to “come and bathe in high-tech sound, feast on unearthly visuals, and let the experience take you on the ultimate trip.” The concept of the Spirit House was teased in the video for the Gorillaz’s “Saturn Barz” and it will hit New York from Apr. 21-23, Berlin from Apr. 28-30 and Amsterdam on May 6.
According to a press release from Sonos, “Gorillaz will transform raw spaces in several cities around the world into Gorillaz Spirit Houses. These spaces will include a real-life manifestation of Murdoc, 2D, Russel and Noodle’s lounge in Gorillaz’ own home, offering fans the opportunity to dive deeper into their world.”
Tickets for the event are free and can be obtained here. Gorillaz’s new album, Humanz, is due out on Apr. 28 and it features Jamaican singer Popcaan, as well as Mavis Staples, Carly Simon, De La Soul, Pusha T, Danny Brown and Vince Staples.
