A year ago today, we lost Merle Haggard, the country music icon. And on his new album God’s Problem Child, Willie Nelson — Haggard’s friend, contemporary, and frequent touring buddy — pays Haggard tribute on a new song called “He Won’t Ever Be Gone.” It’s a mellow, plainspoken remembrance, with Nelson singing some kind words about one of the few people who he could really ever call a peer. The stately black-and-white video shows Nelson recording the song, and it’s got some footage of Haggard in the studio, too. Check it out below.
