Cende – “What I Want” (Feat. Frankie Cosmos)
Cende — the Brooklyn four-piece that counts Porches’ Cameron Wisch and LVL UP’s Greg Rutkin among its members — are releasing their debut album, #1 Hit Single, next month. Its lead single, “Bed,” was an anxious quick hit about never wanting to leave your comfort zone, but its follow-up, “What I Want,” lets the band spread out a little bit more. It features strings and synths and in-the-background guitar rippers, all unfurling over a pleasant five minutes. “And it isn’t the fact that I know who I want to be,” Wisch croons in the chorus. “I don’t know how/ It’s to think that what I want/ Doesn’t amount.” He’s joined by Frankie Cosmos’ Greta Kline in the second verse, who adds a little sweet to his sour: “You say be here with me now/ As if I would know how.” It all culminates in a melodic final minute that ties the whole track together. Listen to it below.
