Evita Vs. Evita: Patti Lupone Comes For Madonna
Madonna’s best-known acting role was Argentine political leader Eva Perón in the 1996 film Evita. But she didn’t originate the role. Before Evita was a movie, it was a Broadway musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Patti Lupone was the first to portray Perón, and apparently she was not pleased with Madonna’s performance.
People points out that Lupone appears on tonight’s Watch What Happens Live, where she tells Andy Cohen she thinks Madonna is a “movie killer” whose performance was a “piece of shit.” Lupone continues, “She’s dead behind the eyes. She cannot act her way out of a paper bag. She should not be in film or on stage. She’s a wonderful performer for what she does, but she is not an actress. Bang!” Watch Lupone’s comments below.
Argentina, you can finally start crying for Madonna now.
