On Friday, Lorde released her excellent sophomore album, Melodrama. Before the album was released, she sat down with New Zealand publication The Spinoff for a track-by-track breakdown of her new album. Among the many takeaways: It was actually "Royals" that Max Martin called "incorrect songwriting," not lead single "Green Light"; she used Frank Ocean as a guiding post: "In this sort of post-Blonde landscape, we can all sort of do whatever we want in terms of instrumentation."; and she's already thinking about the next album, at least in the abstract: "I think I know what the next record is going to sound like, but of course I have no idea. It's gonna be really different to what I think it is right now." You can download all of the individual episodes as a .zip file here (right-click and hit "save as") or stream them all below.
Melodrama is out now via Republic/Lava.
