Behold The Strange Vision Of Joe Scarborough Performing With His Band On Colbert
With apologies to Jay-Z/Kanye West and Young Dolph/Blac Youngsta, the summer’s best rap feud is clearly the bitter rivalry between two old men, neither of whom raps and both of whom probably don’t even like rap. I refer, of course, to the hot, hot beef between President of the United States Donald J. Trump and MSNBC morning host Joe Scarborough. Last night, Scarborough was a guest on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show alongside co-host and fiancée Mika Brzezinski, where he made the headline-grabbing claim that he’s leaving the Republican Party because he can’t get behind what it’s become under Trump. (Scarborough is a former Congressman from Florida.) And Scarborough was also, bafflingly, the show’s musical guest last night.
Scarborough fronts a band that’s simply called Scarborough; they released the EP Mystified last month. And on last night’s Colbert, they performed a honking Jimmy Buffetcore number called “Welcome To The Monkey House.” It was pretty bad! A frightening number of players in Scarborough’s band wore cowboy hats and Hawaiian shirts, though I applaud Scarborough’s decision not to change out of his suit into something more rock ‘n’ roll. Colbert seemed simultaneously appalled and delighted. Check it out below, alongside, what the hell, the video of Scarborough giving up his spot in the GOP.
