Devin McKnight recently announced his departure from Speedy Ortiz in order to focus on his new band Maneka. Being the ringleader of a band is new for McKnight, but the project’s debut single disproves any thought of incapacity. “Tiger Baby” is an engine-revving tune with the lurching distortion of distressed guitars at its centerfold, elevated by the plush guest vocals of Jordyn Blakely. It’s off Maneka’s debut EP Is You Is, which features themes of freedom, agency, and self-empowerment, and you can hear it below.
