Lomelda – “Out There”
The late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith is a commonly mythologized musician due in part to his vulnerable and melancholic catalogue as well as his grim death. On her latest single, “Out There,” recent Band To Watch Lomelda sings about a fictional run-in with Smith. Hannah Read says she based the song on a moment in high school when her brother discovered live Elliot Smith Recordings and proceeded to fantasize about being friends with the late musician. “Out There” feels effortless and simultaneously onerous. It mimics the misty sentiment that is abundant in Smith’s music; its foggy anxiety is eventually comforted by a warm acoustic treatment. Listen to “Out There” below.
