Deadmau5 Buys Rick And Morty-Inspired McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce For $15,000
A rare bottle of McDonald’s discontinued Mulan Szechuan dipping sauce, revived in the cultural consciousness by a recent episode of Adult Swim’s Rick And Morty, was sold on eBay on Aug. 10 for a whopping $15,000 and bought by none other than EDM star Deadmau5.
The Szechuan sauce was originally released in 1998 as a promotion for Disney’s animated film Mulan. Flash forward nearly two decades and McDonald’s revived the recipe for just four bottles as a promotion tied to its prominent role in the season 3 premiere of Rick And Morty. One of the giveaway’s winners, WWG writer Robert Workman, put the sauce up for auction on eBay with 20 percent of the proceeds benefiting Extra Life and AbleGamers.
While the first highest bidder ditched the commitment, the second highest bidder (Joel Zimmerman, better known as DJ Deadmau5) was more than ready to set aside $15,000 for the sauce. Now it looks like he’ll soon be enjoying that (presumably) tasty topping.
The DJ showed off his excitement on social media, posting photos of the sauce on Instagram and Twitter.
