Slow Mass – “Suburban Yellow”
Chicago Band To Watch Slow Mass are back with their fourth and final single before next week’s release of their debut LP On Watch. Compared to their 2016 EP Treasure Pains, the four-piece has delved into a more serene facet of post-hardcore. There’s less screaming, but the energy and passion still surge.
Following a similar vibe to their previous song “Blocks,” “Suburban Yellow” is mellow and enticing as it creeps towards you. Barely audible against the melodic guitar, bassist Mercedes Webb’s powerfully gentle vocals shine as they intertwine with Dave Collis’ strained, emotional yelps. Together they plunge the the track into a dizzying, echoing loop.
I think the lyrics might reflect this sensation best: “Standing still in a sinking pool,” Slow Mass drag you along with them. Listen below.
