Kero Kero Bonito – “Time Today” Video
Kero Kero Bonito, the band version of a live cartoon, ventured away from their usual bouncy electro-pop into surprising rock outbursts on their TOTEP EP earlier this year. From the sounds of their new single, the English trio’s sound is continuing to evolve.
“Time Today” finds Sarah Midori Perry lending her melodious chirp to a moody mirage at a brisk tempo. The music rides the borderline between new wave and chillwave, chipper and fit for finger-snapping. “I got so much time today,” Perry sings. “I got hopes and dreams and plans all yet to be made/ So get out the way/ ‘Cause I’m coming through now/ I got something to do.” As usual, it’s a keeper.
It’s no wonder, then, that “Time Today” is the lead single from a new album called Time ‘n’ Place. We have no word on its release beyond a YouTube caption promising it’s “coming soon.” And given how quickly TOTEP appeared on the heels of lead single “Only Acting,” “soon” could mean within the next few days.
In the meantime, here’s the “Time Today” video, directed by KKB and James Hankins, featuring Perry holed up in some kind of hospital? She runs on a treadmill, tries to build towers out of playing cards, watches TV, does arts and crafts, etc. There’s also a Nurse Ratched type character. Watch and decipher below.
