Jay Rock – “The Bloodiest”
The reliably hard and intense LA rapper Jay Rock, the most traditional and hardheaded member of the TDE crew, is getting ready to release his new album Redemption next week, and it’s shaping up nicely. He’s already shared the first single “Win,” which features fired-up ad-libs from his labelmate Kendrick Lamar. And now he’s shared the tracklist for his album, which features contributions from people like SZA, J. Cole, and Jeremih.
There’s also a “featuring” credit for Kendrick on the song “Wow Freestyle,” which hopefully means we’ll get a verse from him, not just ad-libs. And there’s a version of “King’s Dead” that lists only Future as a guest, not Kendrick or James Blake, so maybe it’s different from the version that appeared on the Black Panther soundtrack.
Jay Rock has also shared the new song “The Bloodiest,” the album’s opening track. It’s a raw, angry song with some absolutely breathless rapping from Jay Rock. Boi-1da, Allen Ritter, and Jake One produced the bruising, organ-laced beat, and Jay Rock sounds great on it: “Battle scars and tribulations, downfalls from the situations / I bounced off with dedication, accounted for my participation.” Below, listen to the song and check out the album’s tracklist.
