Spiritualized – “Here It Comes (The Road) Let’s Go”
It’s been more than six years since Spiritualized came out with Sweet Heart Sweet Light, their last album. Next month, that silence ends. Jason Pierce is returning with And Nothing Hurt, a new LP that he recorded entirely by himself, in his London home. Pierce has already shared two songs that will appear on the album: “A Perfect Miracle” and “I’m Your Man.” They’re both very good. But today, we get to hear Pierce tapping into that classic Spiritualized gorgeosity in a way that we haven’t heard in years.
The new Spiritualized song, the confusingly title “Here It Comes (The Road) Let’s Go,” is the best song we’ve yet heard from the new album, and it’s a total stunner. It’s a slow, beatific meditation on losing yourself out in the world. A five-minute hymn built from guitars and horns and pianos, “Here It Comes (The Road) Let’s Go” is one of those songs that picks you up and sweeps you away.
There are no bad Spiritualized songs. All of them are good. Every last one. But there are some Spiritualized songs that, when heard in the right light and at the right time, can make you feel like you’re flying. This is one of those. Listen to it below.
And Nothing Hurt is out 9/7 on Fat Possum.
