The 5 Best Videos Of The Week
Scientists should really look into “Unbelievable,” the new video from second-tier American boy band Why Don’t We, a video that very nearly made this list. If tornados are being caused by groups of foxy young men passionately singing together in the desert, that’s the kind of thing we should know! This week’s picks are below.
5. Cosmo Gold – “Drown The Fly” (Dir. Scarlet Moreno)
I can find no evidence of this online, but I have a hazy memory of some early-’90s MTV sketch show running a skit where someone imagines the B-52’s’ Fred Schneider following him around all day, describing everything he’s doing as he’s doing it. As in: “He’s brushing his teeth!” “He’s walking down the street!” This is only funny if you imagine it happening in Fred Schneider voice, but if you do that, it’s fucking amazing. This video reminded me of that, and I am grateful.
4. YG – “In The Dark” (Dir. Colin Tilley)
God bless the Satanic rap video, a proud tradition that stretches all the way back to that one Flatlinerz video where there’s a moshpit in an open grave.
3. Summer Cannibals – “Can’t Tell Me No” (Dir. Jonah Ray)
Asshole bosses are so powerful that they can ruin even a dream scenario like working in an arcade that has rock-video lighting. Don’t work for assholes.
2. Freddie Gibbs & Madlib – “Crime Pays” (Dir. Nick Walker)
Here it is: The most beautiful coke-rap video of all time. The fucking Lawrence Of Arabia of coke-rap videos. And you don’t even know it’s a coke-rap video until the very end. (Um. Spoiler.)
1. Rosalía – “Aute Cuture” (Dir. Bradley & Pablo)
Come on. You knew it was going to be this, the glammed-out, Kill Bill-esque Nightmare On Elm Street reboot that we didn’t know we needed.
