Watch Jose Canseco Join The Lonely Island For “Jose & Mark” At Summerfest
Last month, the Lonely Island released The Bash Brothers Experience, a surprise half-hour Netflix special and album rapped from the perspective of late-’80s Oakland A’s home-run hitters Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire. The real Jose Canseco loved their parody, enthusiastically tweeting about it and sending the comedy-rap trio his manager’s phone number.
They must’ve gotten in touch, because during the Lonely Island’s set at Summerfest in Milwaukee last night, Canseco joined them onstage as Samberg (dressed as Canseco) and Akiva Schaffer (dressed as McGWire) were in the middle of performing their song “Jose & Mark.” “Oh my god, he’s going to kill us,” Samberg screamed as he ran around the stage. “I’m not going to kill you. I’m not even here to hurt you,” Canseco said. “But you know what? You’re doing this wrong. I’m going to show you how to do this the right way.”
The real Canseco went on to lead the crowd in a chant of “They call me Jose!” while Schaffer chimed in with “And I’m Mark.” Watch below; T-Pain also joined the Lonely Island to perform their hit “I’m On A Boat,” and there were puppets of Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga, a “live” video screen appearance from Michael Bolton, and Jorma Taccone dressed up as Brett Favre.
