Chance The Rapper Postpones Tour, Goes On Lights Out With David Spade
Not long ago, Chance The Rapper became a father for the second time. And since then, Chance has made the entirely sane decision to hold off on the arena tour that was set to kick off next month. On Instagram last night, Chance wrote about his decision to postpone his tour until January:
When Kensli was born, I went on tour 2 weeks later and missed some of the most important milestones in her life, but more importantly I was absent when her mother needed me the most. At this point as a husband and father of two I realize that I can’t make that mistake again. I need to be as helpful and available as possible to my wife in these early months of raising Kensli and Marli.
Chance will still do a big hometown headlining show at Chicago’s United Center later this month, and he’s also got a few upcoming festival appearances that he’ll hold to. But the regular tour won’t happen until early next year. Here’s the announcement:
Chance’s new fatherhood has not, however prevented him from a couple of recent engagements. This past weekend, Chance put in a guest appearance at Kanye West’s Sunday Service in Chicago. And last night, Chance was on David Spade’s new Comedy Central show Lights Out, doing a panel with Spade, director Judd Apatow, and Fleabag/Stranger Things star Brett Gelman. Chance has done SNL a few times and even hosted once, but he is obviously not a full-time comedy person. Lately, Chance’s great contribution to the art of comedy has been other people’s jokes about his album The Big Day. But while Chance was the quietest person on the panel, he still did just fine, seeming entirely comfortable alongside these older veteran types.
On the show, Chance was obligated to talk about the whole Sunday Service thing: “This is one of those that I don’t really have a good bit for, because Christ usually isn’t funny.” But he stepped up when, for instance, talking about Antonio Brown and the whole wrong-helmet situation: “The one that comes with more money and Tom Brady.”
Here’s Chance talking about the Sunday Service about the idea that Kourtney Kardashian is going bald:
