Deradoorian – “Monk’s Robes”
Angel Deradoorian, the former Dirty Projectors singer who’s carved out an excellent solo career for herself over the last decade, announced a new album called Find The Sun last month. And now, she’s announcing that that album is being delayed due to the pandemic. Originally scheduled for a 5/22 release, Find The Sun will now be out digitally and on vinyl on 9/18, and all of Deradoorian’s upcoming tour dates are indefinitely postponed.
But that doesn’t mean that we’re not getting any good news! Because today, Deraadorian is sharing another new track from Find The Sun following first single “Saturnine Night,” the lovely and strangely hypnotic “Monk’s Robes.” According to a press release, the song is about a monk who’s worldview is turned upside down after he isolates himself on a mountaintop to commune with his god.
“I’ve heard so many people say ‘I want to escape to the mountain and live alone because life is so fucking painful sometimes,’” Deradoorian explains. “And that’s not really the way to do it either. You need to be isolated, you need to learn about yourself, but you can’t really stay there. You also need to integrate. You need to do both.” Listen below.
