Missy Elliott’s “Cool Off” Video Will Have You Spinning ‘Round Like A Ceiling Fan
Missy Elliott’s fans and peers campaigned for years to get her a Video Vanguard Award, an MTV Video Music Award ostensibly designed to honor music video visionaries, one she very much deserved after all the wildly colorful and eccentric visuals she’s dropped in her lifetime. At last summer’s VMAs, it finally happened. Around the same time, Elliott dropped the Iconology EP and has proceeded to remind the world why she’s known as one of the foremost music video artists of her generation.
Thus far two of the four songs on have gotten the music video treatment: opening track “Throw It Back” when the EP dropped, and then “DripDemeanor” a few months later. Now she’s back with a clip for the club-rap track “Cool Off.” Like “Throw It Back,” it’s helmed by Daniel Russell, is set in a museum, and features a guest appearance from Teyana Taylor.
