Watch Debbie Harry & Alice Cooper In The Trailer For Suzi Quatro Documentary Suzi Q
In the early ’70s, the Detroit native Susan Kay Quatro kicked off a hitmaking career as a tough glam-rocker. There were women who were rock stars before Suzi Quatro, but she was the first example of an archetype — a sort of hard-rock superhero type — that would become a defining force in the punk rock revolutions that would follow her. Suzi Quatro made major hits, and she also dented popular culture in her recurring role as Leather Tuscadero on the sitcom Happy Days. But she’s still an unsung figure in rock history. A new documentary aims to change that.
As Rolling Stone reports, the director Liam Firmager has put together the feature-length documentary Suzi Q, which tells of Quatro’s influence. Quatro, who is still making music, is in the documentary, and it also features interviews with many of Quatro’s peers and admirers, including Joan Jett, the Talking Heads’ Tina Weymouth, L7’s Donita Sparks, producer Mike Campbell, and Quatro’s Happy Days co-star Henry Winkler.
In the film’s new trailer, we hear a bit from Quatro, and we hear more from a whole lot of prominent people who have things to say about Quatro’s legacy. The trailer includes some people who are themselves worthy of documentaries: Alice Cooper, Blondie’s Debbie Harry, the Runaways’ Cherie Currie, The Go-Go’s’ Kathy Valentine, and Sweet’s Andy Scott. Check it out below.
Suzi Q is out digitally for one night 7/1.
